What is Stamp Collecting?
Stamp collecting, also known as philately, is the hobby of collecting and studying postage stamps and related postal items such as envelopes, postmarks, postcards and labels.

Some people enjoy the history and stories behind the stamps, as they often reflect important events, famous people, culture, wildlife and places from around the world. Others like the challenge of building a complete set, researching rare items, or organising and displaying their collection.

Collections can be focused in many different ways; by country, theme (such as animals, ships or sport), time period, postmarks, or postal history. Some collectors enjoy stamps simply as colourful miniature artworks, while others study them in great detail.

Stamp collecting can be enjoyed at any level, from a relaxing pastime to a serious research hobby, and it’s something people of all ages can enjoy at their own pace.

Our Club
Founded in 1931, the Geelong Philatelic Society Inc. brings together people who share an interest in stamps, postal history, covers, postcards and related collectibles. Whether you collect a single country, a theme, postmarks, or just enjoy learning more about philately, you’ll find a friendly and supportive community here.

Our Meetings
We meet twice a month, at two different venues, each with a slightly different focus. See our meetings page for more information.

Full details of what’s happening at each meeting can be found on our Calendar page.

Both venues offer plenty of parking and are fully accessible for people with disabilities.

What We Do
At every meeting you’ll find sales sheets and social time to enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits. Across the year we also offer:
• Mini and major auctions
• Friendly competitions
• Member displays and guest speakers
• A Philatelic Quiz
• A collectibles display of non-philatelic material
• Two dinners with the Geelong Numismatic Society
